Stephanie Hughes is a Paris-based African-American painter born in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Her work brings together archival research, the neuroscience of memory and the recollection of family histories as acts of preservation, while allowing her abstract imaginings to open a space beyond the evident. Through geometric rhythms, shifting light and vivid colors, her work creates an environment where viewers can linger, breathe and reflect on its emotional resonance. What emerges is a consideration of what is remembered and what continues to live beyond the record.
